#1 Travel around the world

Since I was a kid, travelling around the world and discovering new countries was my number one bucket list and throughout the years this dream became stronger and more reachable.

The internet changed a lot about travelling and the ways you can do it.

How many of you want to travel around the world but haven't taken the plunge yet? I would say that every single person who has the means and opportunity has thought about it, but how many of us actually do it?

However, there are many reasons why someone might want to travel around the world. Maybe you're looking for adventure, or maybe you want to see as much of the world as possible before settling down.

Whatever your reason might be, a trip around the world can be an amazing experience that you'll never forget and if you're already planning a world trip or wondering how much it costs to travel around the world, here are some amazing tips and useful information from my own experience.

How I decided to travel around the world

After the age of 12, my godfather, who had no wife and kids, gave me every year for my birthday a trip to a city in Europe. He worked for a travel-related company and lived in cities like London, Barcelona and Amsterdam.

I remember our trip to Barcelona, as I just bought my first new camera, a Sony compact camera and during this trip, I could test it out. My godfather, who loved to visit museums and exhibitions, tried to teach me more about these cities. However, I was a teenager and not yet into art or history, I liked the different cultures or worlds he tried to show me.

After the age of 16, our trips together came to an end as I started travelling with friends to places like Ibiza, Budapest and then eventually my first backpack trip through Thailand.

The travel bug got me and I was excited to discover more and new places every year. For the next years, I travelled to Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, South Africa and many other places.

At the time, I was working and happy with the life I've had but I still had the urge or feeling that I missed something in my life. Freedom!

In November 2017, I went on an amazing road trip around Iceland and during that period, I was not really happy anymore on the job. The company was growing in capacity but not in employers so more work and less time to do the work properly.

However, on this road trip through the stunning landscapes of Iceland, I decided to make a change. To do something else, find a new job, go on a long trip or go back to school to finish my high school degree. (fun fact: I never finished school)

I thought about it for a few weeks and in my mind, I already made a decision, I quit my job and I am going to travel the world. The only thing I had to do was to tell my boss I am going to quit but I had to make a plan first.

From November 2017 to March 2018, I did research on how to travel the world, I made a list of places to visit in the world, saved more money, talked with friends, sold my land, signed off my rental apartment and set a date for departure. October 22, 2018, was my due date.

In April 2018, I told my boss that I wanna quit the job but due to the fact that I worked in the same company for 10 years, I had a 14-week notice before I officially could quit. This wasn't so bad as I could save a bit more money for the world trip.

Anytime is the best time to travel around the world but it depends on your personal situation. Do you have a job? Do you have enough savings? Do you have a family? These are important things you need to keep in mind before you decide to travel around the world.

The camera gear I used for this trip

I never go out without my camera and many people ask me which gear I use. So to make it quite easy, I listed all the gear I used for this trip below.

Most of the time, I travel with the Sony A7III and the Sony 24-105mm/f4 as my primary lens but depending on the location, I change to another setup. However, I love the Tamron 17-28 to shoot in the big cities.
