Getting married in Ischgl: an adventurous mountain wedding in Austria

Some marriages are beautiful. Other marriages feel like a complete adventure. The wedding of Ellen and Dennis in Ischgl undoubtedly belonged to the latter category.

For four days, they celebrated their love amidst the Austrian mountains, together with their little son, family, and best friends. From exuberant après-ski and an authentic Tyrolean evening to an emotional ceremony on the mountain and a descent in wedding attire: this destination wedding weekend had it all.

From a swipe on Tinder to marrying in the Austrian mountains

The story of Ellen and Dennis began unexpectedly, with a simple swipe on Tinder. What followed was a first date, then a second, and then a third. The connection kept growing, and eventually, their love was sealed with the arrival of their son, Jules.

Ellen and Dennis are both true life enthusiasts. They love traveling, adventure, skiing, and especially making new memories together. Their life philosophy is simple: life is too short to keep postponing dreams.

No regrets. Just do it. Enjoy to the fullest.

This mentality was palpable throughout their entire wedding.

Why Ellen and Dennis chose a wedding in Ischgl

Ischgl was not an unfamiliar destination for Ellen. She has been traveling to this Austrian mountain village with her family for years, and Dennis felt at home there right away.

Since they are both avid skiers, the idea quickly emerged to celebrate their wedding not in Belgium, but in the mountains. For Ellen, it was a dream to say their vows in a place that meant so much to her.

And so their wedding became not a classic one-day celebration, but a four-day destination wedding in Ischgl.

Together with about a hundred guests, they traveled to Tyrol for a weekend full of celebration, emotion, sun, snow, and adventure.

A destination wedding that started with après-ski

The wedding weekend kicked off with an après-ski at the Trofana Alm. Family and friends gathered to celebrate the beginning of the marriage.

There was drinking, laughing, and dancing. The atmosphere was perfect from the very first evening. It was immediately clear that Ellen and Dennis were surrounded by a close-knit group of people who wished them all the best and enjoyed life just as much.

So it wasn't a quiet introductory evening. But honestly? A wedding in Ischgl naturally calls for a hearty après-ski.

On Friday evening, all guests were welcomed during an evening in traditional Austrian style. The theme? Tyrolean attire.

The men appeared in lederhosen, the women in dirndls, and everyone was fully dressed according to the theme. With an aperitif in hand and a view over the village, the evening began during a beautiful sunset.

Then the entire group headed to the Silvretta for an authentic Austrian dinner. There was live music, dancing, and of course, Jägermeister flowed generously.

Between the food and festivities, there were personal speeches from friends and family. It became an evening full of humor, warm words, and stories from the lives of Ellen and Dennis.

The wedding day: getting ready in the Silvretta wellness

On Saturday morning, the big day began early.

Ellen got ready with her loved ones in the wellness and spa of Silvretta. The peaceful surroundings formed a beautiful contrast to the exuberant evenings before. As her hair and makeup were being done, the realization slowly grew that the moment she had been waiting for had finally arrived.

Meanwhile, Dennis was getting ready in his hotel room. He would have to leave it later, as Ellen still needed the space. Luckily, he could hang out with his friends.

Their son Jules was also present during the preparations. Those little, spontaneous moments as a family made the morning extra personal.

A romantic first look in the center of Ischgl

After the preparations, Ellen was taken through the village in a carriage. In the center of Ischgl, Dennis was waiting for her, along with his best man.

The moment he saw her for the first time in her wedding dress was intimate and genuine. For a moment, all the hustle and bustle around them seemed to fade away.

No big show, just two people looking at each other and realizing: today we are getting married.

After the first look, the guests also headed towards the ski lift. The destination was high above Ischgl, at the Panoramabar, where the ceremony would take place.

Before the ceremony, we first took time for family photos and some portraits with the witnesses. The view of the surrounding Alps naturally provided an impressive backdrop.

Then it was time for the ceremony.

Under a radiant sun, with the snow-capped mountain peaks in the background, Ellen and Dennis promised each other eternal loyalty. It was about ten to fifteen degrees, and so sunny that several guests later appeared to have gotten a slight sunburn.

But it was mainly the personal vows that left a deep impression.

Ellen and Dennis read their words in the presence of their family and friends. They also remembered those who could not be there but still held an important place in their lives.

High up on the mountain, that moment felt extra special. As if the people they missed were a little closer.

After the emotional ceremony, it was time for something that suited Dennis perfectly.

He had long wanted to saber a bottle of champagne with a ski. And when you get married on top of a mountain in Ischgl, you simply have to execute such an idea.

Amidst loud cheers from all the guests, Dennis took his position. The bottle was opened with the ski, and the champagne sprayed festively into the air.

It not only created a fantastic moment but also some spectacular wedding photos. One of those images was later even awarded a photography award.

These are exactly the moments for which I love to photograph destination weddings and elopements: spontaneous, a bit crazy, and entirely unique to the couple.

Reception with panoramic views of the Alps

After the ceremony, a cozy reception followed at the Panoramabar. With snacks, drinks, and a view over the mountains, the guests could chat about the vows.

The atmosphere was relaxed. There was laughter, toasting, and plenty of enjoyment of the exceptional location.

Yet Ellen and Dennis still had a surprise in store.

Because why would you just take the ski lift down after your ceremony when you are both experienced skiers?

It became one of the most unforgettable moments of the weekend. The combination of elegance and adventure perfectly suited who they are. No stiff poses or traditional expectations, just having fun together and writing their own rules.

Along the way, there was plenty of laughter. The atmosphere was relaxed and playful as we continued to photograph and film them during the descent.

After about forty minutes, we arrived back in the village. It was time to freshen up and get ready for the evening party.

The evening reception and dinner took place at the Kitzloch in Ischgl. After all the adventures of the day, the guests came together again for an extensive dinner and a lively party.

The emotions from the ceremony made way for music, dancing, and exuberance. Just as the weekend had begun, the wedding day was celebrated with lots of energy and, above all, a great deal of fun.

It became a day where everything came together: love, family, friendship, adventure, and the freedom to experience a wedding entirely your own way.

A wedding in Austria that no one will forget quickly

The marriage of Ellen and Dennis proved that a wedding can be much more than one ceremony and one evening celebration.

By experiencing several days together, their guests truly had the time to get to know each other and create memories together. It felt not just like a wedding celebration, but like a shared journey.

From the first après-ski to the last dance, every part of the weekend was tailored to their personality. Nothing felt obligatory or forced. Everything felt like Ellen and Dennis.

Adventurous, exuberant, warm, and a little bit crazy.
