Lore & Jorge: an intimate love shoot on the rugged coast of Málaga

Some love stories don't require a big celebration, a strict schedule, or hundreds of guests. Sometimes it's just about two people, a place that feels like home, and a few quiet hours where nothing else is needed.

That was exactly the feeling during the photoshoot of Lore and Jorge on the coast of Málaga. A spontaneous, intimate shoot among the rocks, the soft evening light, and the waves of the Mediterranean Sea.

From a childhood friendship to a meeting in Málaga

I have known Lore since my childhood. Over the years, our lives took different directions. Eventually, she moved with her husband Jorge to the region around Málaga, where they have since built a beautiful life with their two children.

When my trip to Málaga was confirmed, Lore sent me a message. She and Jorge had recently married in a very intimate and somewhat last-minute way. A day that suited them perfectly, but which left little time for an extensive photoshoot of them together.

The idea arose to create that moment after all. Not a classic wedding report and not a full elopement, but a relaxed love shoot with the same intimacy and freedom.

A love shoot among the rocks of La Araña

We met at the eastern coast of Málaga, in the area of La Araña. Here, the city suddenly feels far away. The coast becomes rougher, the rocks come closer to the water, and along the sea, you can find various quiet spots that are perfect for a photoshoot.

Our first stop was at the Torre de las Palomas, also known as the Torre de la Araña. This historic watchtower stands high above the Mediterranean Sea and, together with the surrounding rocks, forms a beautiful backdrop.

We started off slowly. A bit of walking, talking, and getting used to the camera. No stiff poses, but small cues that allowed Lore and Jorge to focus on each other.

And that's often where the most beautiful images emerge: in a gaze that lingers a little longer, a hand that instinctively seeks the other, or a laugh that you can never fully direct.

Tropical curls, Spanish warmth, and Cuban roots

Lore and Jorge are one of those couples where you immediately feel that two different worlds have beautifully blended together. Jorge has Cuban roots, and Lore has her recognizable curls. Their warmth and playful energy made it particularly easy to create spontaneous images.

They didn't really have to do much.

By walking together over the rocks, holding each other, and occasionally forgetting everything around them, it quickly became more than just an ordinary photoshoot. It felt like an evening out together, with the coast of Málaga as the backdrop.

After our first location, we drove further to Playa Peñón del Cuervo. This beach owes its name to the striking rock formation that rises from the water and divides the beach into two parts.

From the parking lot, we walked together towards the beach. Even along the way, we found various beautiful spots to take photos. The dry vegetation, rugged rock walls, and warm evening light gave the landscape an almost cinematic quality.

At the beach itself, the atmosphere changed again.

Lore and Jorge walked along the waterline, waded through the surf together, and tried to keep each other dry — with varying success. What started with cautiously stepping through the water quickly ended in wet feet, lots of laughter, and clothes that stayed less dry than planned.

Exactly how a photoshoot should be for me.

Not too neat. Not overthinking. Just having fun together and being surprised by the moments that occurred in between.

Beautiful wedding photos don't always have to be taken on your wedding day

The wedding of Lore and Jorge was organized quickly, personally, and very intimately. As a result, they didn't have many extensive photos of them together afterwards.

But beautiful wedding photos don't necessarily have to be taken on your wedding day.

An after-wedding shoot or elopement-style photoshoot gives you a bit more freedom. There’s no time pressure, no one is waiting for you, and you don’t have to consider a ceremony, dinner, or first dance. You can choose a location that really means something to you and take your time to enjoy together.

For Lore and Jorge, that became their own surroundings in Málaga.

The sea where they now live nearby. The landscape that belongs to their new life. And a quiet evening where they didn't have to be just mom and dad, but again simply Lore and Jorge.

We ultimately spent over two hours together on the coast. We photographed among the rocks, along small walking paths, at the water's edge, and by the recognizable rock formation of Playa Peñón del Cuervo.

The result is much more than a series of beautiful couple photos.

It is a memory of this period in their lives. Of their marriage, their family, and their home under the Spanish sun. A place where their story continues and where their children will likely return often in the future.

For me, it was extra special to meet someone from my childhood years later, on the other side of Europe, and to capture her love and life there.

Sometimes photography brings people back together at moments you could never have predicted.
