Best hotels in Kathmandu

Kathmandu is the country’s largest and capital city, and it’s a great place to begin your journey or get lost in the maze of narrow alleys while taking in the city’s great mix of temples, dust, and busy traffic.

Thamel, the “backpacker’s hub” has some of the best hostels and hotels in Kathmandu, and it was my favorite area to walk around at night. Besides the fantastic accommodations, this neighborhood has many charming restaurants, little gift shops, and a lovely atmosphere.

You can find already a comfortable double bedroom with a private bathroom for only €20 / per night and for those who are looking for a real bucket list adventure in Nepal, it’s the best place to stay if you want to start your journey to Everest Base Camp.

Reasons enough to stay a few nights in this vibrant city!

The best hotels in Pokhara

Pokhara is a peaceful place located at the foothills of the Annapurna mountain range, about an 8-hour bus ride from Kathmandu or a short one-hour flight.

This is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places to stay in Nepal, as it is surrounded by the Annapurna Mountains and the Phewa Lake. Due to its location, there are plenty of amazing activities and sights to explore such as multiple-day hikes, kayaking on the lake, parasailing, yoga ashrams, cooking workshops, and leisurely strolls around the lovely village.

Although I stayed in Pokhara for about 10 days to complete the 5-day Mardi Himal Trek and the 3-day Poonhill Trek, I could stay here for a few more weeks because the atmosphere and food were simply delicious.

The best hotels in Chitwan

The Chitwan district is where you can find the Chitwan National Park, which is without a doubt a must-see location while traveling in Nepal because you can join a safari there and search for fascinating wildlife.

When you book a stay at a safari lodge, a game drive is often included or you can book this fantastic activity additional at a discounted price.

I stayed at the Sapana Village Lodge Chitwan and went on a safari in the Chitwan National Park, where we saw the Nepalese Rhino, several deer, elephants, and even crocodiles along the way.

The best hotels in Bhaktapur

Bhaktapur is a location that was not on my Nepal itinerary when I eventually started this journey. However, you’ll get completely immersed in the authentic culture as soon as you enter this city with its beautiful architecture, narrow alleys, impressive squares, and craft workshops.

You will also find out that the hotels in Bhaktapur are slightly more traditional than those in Kathmandu and Pokhara as the famous Durbar Square is protected by the Unesco World Heritage List. Therefore you’ll also need to pay a US$ 15 admission fee, but it is well worth it.

I stayed two nights at the Peacock Guest House for €40 per night and was able to explore some interesting places around the city.

Where to stay in Nepal: Nagarkot

Nagarkot is a very underrated place in Nepal which is located on the edge of Kathmandu Valley and the reason you should choose to stay here is that it provides some of the most breathtaking views of Mount Everest.

During my trip to Nepal, I had one unplanned night, so I made a last-minute decision to stay at the Country Hotel in Nagarkot. For only €70 a night, you have a private room and some of the most breathtaking views during sunrise, while the epic sunsets will leave you in awe.

However, I would recommend staying a few nights and exploring the many hiking trails in the surrounding area.

Although Nepal is not a beach destination, it is an interesting place to visit, surrounded by the highest peaks in the world, full of adventures, beautiful nature, and unique wildlife.

A visit to Nepal is more than just a vacation. It’s an experience you’ll never forget!
There are hiking adventures ranging from three days to three weeks that are ideal for people who enjoy being outdoors, while a yoga retreat is perfect for people who prefer peace and quiet.

I hope this article can help you to find the perfect places to stay in Nepal during your trip.

Let me know if you have any questions as I am happy to help you.

The camera gear I used for this trip

I never go out without my camera and many people ask me which gear I use. So to make it quite easy, I listed all the gear I used for this trip below.

Most of the time, I travel with the Sony A7III and the Sony 24-105mm/f4 as my primary lens but depending on the location, I change to another setup. However, I love the Tamron 17-28 to shoot in the big cities.
